Plainridge opener a success

from Plainridge Racecourse

Plainville, MA — Six different reinsmen posted driving doubles on Tuesday afternoon (April 11) as the 2006 live racing season got underway at Plainridge Racecourse.

The six drivers that posted two victories apiece Tuesday represented a variety of tracks. Among them was Brad Irvine, who spent the last few months at Cal-Expo. Irvine is the defending driving champion at Plainridge, and has won the award three of the past four seasons.

Plainridge regulars Mike Eaton and Todd O’Dea also notched doubles on Tuesday’s card, as did Marc Mosher.

Jason Bartlett, its top driver in 2005, represented the state of Maine, and tallied a pair of wins. One was a victory with Abliss, as the former Open mare returned to action after a two-year absence.

After competing at Saratoga Raceway for much of 2006, Ron Cushing scored two victories at Plainridge Tuesday, including a win with You Only Live Once in the featured trotting event of the card.

After the first dozen races of the card the six drivers had each won two races. In the final race of the afternoon veteran Kyle DiBenedetto broke through to visit the winner’s circle in his first ever appearance at Plainridge.

Live racing returns to the Massachusetts track on Monday, April 17 at 4:00 p.m.
