Possess The Magic scores in NJSS

East Rutherford, NJ — Possess The Magic lowered her mark to 1:54.1 as she picked up her first win of the season in the second of two $35,850 New Jersey Sire Stakes events for 3-year-old trotting fillies on Wednesday night (June 13) at the Meadowlands.

Possess The Magic was a 1:54.1 winner for Mike Lachance.

Driver Mike Lachance tipped Possess The Magic out at the half and easily cleared to the lead with her as they approached the final turn. She held off the late-flying Gerri’s Joy to win the sixth race by three-quarters of a length, paying $11.20, $5.80 and $4.20. Gerri’s Joy was worth $3.20, $2.60 to place. It was another five lengths back to Flash Lightning, who paid $3.20 to show.

Bred and owned by Brittany Farms, Possess The Magic led all 2-year-olds in earnings last season with a bankroll of $699,588. She wrapped up her freshman campaign with a victory over Pampered Princess in the Breeders Crown. The Ron Gurfein trainee made her 2007 debut in the second leg of the NJSS on June 6 and finished fourth.

Resortful paid $53 as she upset the field in the first NJSS division, race four. Driven by Jeff Gregory, she nosed out Radiant Lindy for the win in 1:55.1. Gregory and trainer Jonas Czernyson share ownership of the filly with Charles Colbrunn and Norma Ragsdale.

The $175,000 NJSS Final for 3-year-old trotting fillies is Thursday, June 21.
