Presence of Standardbred missing from Disney resort

by John Pawlak, marketing director, USTA

Columbus, OH — Disney Vacation Club recognizes that the ambiance of Saratoga Springs, N.Y. has meant elegance, tradition, and horses — but they don’t realize that Standardbreds are very much part of the heritage of the historic city.

The company has built a lavish and sprawling vacation community it calls Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa, located in Walt Disney World in central Florida. As part of the development it plans to build a statue honoring the horses many equate with Saratoga — Thoroughbreds.

Of course, Standardbreds have been owned and bred in the area, and of course raced at Saratoga Raceway, and should be included in the effort.

Those who wish to make that suggestion may contact Disney Vacation Club via e-mail, by visiting http://dvc.disney.go.com/dvc/guest/contact/contactUsLanding?id=ProspectsContactUsPage.

We’re sure they would like to know that the resort and its amenities would be more historically accurate — and attractive to harness racing fans — if a Standardbred were included.
