East Rutherford, NJ — Pumped And Glidin got up in the final strides to win the $68,100 Super Bowl Trotting Series Final on Thursday night (Jan. 24) at The Meadowlands.
In the far turn, Pumped And Glidin charged up first-over, allowing Andy Miller to eventually wear down the favorite, Sauce Two K, and nail him in the stretch. Pumped And Glidin won by a nose in 1:57 in the night’s seventh race. Rushmore Hanover finished third.
“He (Sauce Two K) went a pretty big first quarter and I thought he might soften up a little bit so I just kept my horse going in a straight line and kept coming at him,” Miller said of the trip.
Pumped And Glidin paid $65.00.
Trained by Erv Miller, this is the first win out of three starts for the 4-year-old bay gelding this year. Sue E. Phillips of Charleston, Illinois owns the son of Yankee Glide.
Marietta Hall holds on to win White Ruffles Final
Marietta Hall held on gamely to the wire to win the $50,750 White Ruffles Pacing Series Final.
George Brennan drove Marietta Hall, filling in for Tim Tetrick, who was unable to drive due to built up suspension days.
“Last night Toni (second trainer Rose) told me Tim couldn’t drive and I had a scratch and I guess I was the last one available so it worked out well,” Brennan said.
Marietta Hall held on down the stretch after Martha Brown popped the pocket and tried to take the lead. Marietta Hall won by a neck to win the night’s fifth race in 1:53.4. Fox Valley Sarong finished third.
Marietta Hall paid $6.60.
“She (Martha Brown) raced really well too, we just fought her off and it was a good trip,” Brennan said.
The 4-year-old bay mare trained by Steve Elliott has now won two of her four starts in 2008. The daughter of Cambest boosted her lifetime earnings to more than $80,000 for Bulletproof Enterprises of Boca Raton, Florida.
