Racing cards cancelled in Meadville

by Gerry Connors, the Pennsylvania Harness Racing Commission

Harrisburg, PA — Meadville is “Mudville,” at least as far as harness racing action at the Crawford County Fair is concerned so far this week.

Heavy rain in the northwestern Pennsylvania area has caused the cancellation of the first two of four scheduled cards at Meadville this week. All of the Sires Stake events for 2-year-olds have been lost to the wet weather.

It is hoped that brighter skies visit Crawford County the next few days, so that the 3-year-old Sires Stake horses get to see some action.

Notes: Horsemen should be alerted that they should use this Erie County race office phone number, (814) 739-2232, in calling their entries in for the Wattsburg Fair next week. An alternative phone number for entries is (724) 388-2516.

It should also be noted that the draw for the Sept. 10-11 races at the York Fair will now be held on Friday, September 7.

Both of these notes supersede what is printed in the 2007 Pennsylvania Fair Guide.
