Tuesday’s (October 6) edition of Racing Roundup features results stories from Plainridge Racecourse, Monticello Raceway and Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs.

Irvine wins five at Plainridge

Norwood, MABrad Irvine made five visits to the winner’s circle on Tuesday at Plainridge Racecourse.

He started off the program with a win in the first race aboard Harold Greene, trained by Rachael Ward and owned by Three Martinis Racing Stable and Carolyn Cerbin in a time of 1:54.3, paying $3.40.

His second win came in the fourth race aboard Damaged Connection, trained by Stephen Quinn and owned by Megan Quinn, in a time of 1:58.1, paying $3.00.

The third win came in the fifth race aboard Pretty Lurleen, trained by Rachael Ward and owned by Mike Perpall, in a new lifetime best of 1:56.3 and paying a whopping $71.80.

The fourth came aboard Solano, trained by Melissa Beckwith and owned by Mark Beckwith and David Smith, in a new lifetime best of 1:53.2, paying $8.40.

The fifth and final win came in the tenth race aboard Four Starz Falcon, trained by Mike Girouard and owned by Dominic Marusco, in a time of 1:57.2, paying $3.40.

Irvine stated after the races, that he was extremely thrilled with the day that he had and was thrilled that he was able to accomplish it.

Parker enjoys five win day at Monticello

Monticello, NYAround the Monticello Raceway backstretch he’s known as ‘Zeke’ but when he’s in his fighting regalia the race fans know him as Billy Parker, Jr.

All decked out in his silks on Tuesday afternoon, Zeke added five more victories to his lifetime total and now has 9,804 career victories, ninth best all-time. And those added wins upped his meet-leading total to 294, more than 100 better than his nearest rival.

Behind Enemy Lines was one of five winning drives on Tuesday at Monticello for ‘Zeke’ Parker.

Parker began the afternoon with a 2:01.1 victory behind Diana Bartells’ Mare Supply in the second race. Zeke then won the seventh with JR Class Act Stables’ B Major, in 1:57.3 and followed with a 1:57.2 triumph behind Mike D’Abbraccio’s Behind Enemy Lines in the ninth race.

Win number four on the card came in the 11th race with Don Bailey’s Starfleet Fudge in 1:59.2 and Parker capped his five-bagger day with a 1:58.2 victory with S & P Racing Stables’ McClelland in the 12th.

Parker, who has won 13 driving titles here at Monticello Raceway, is en route to his 14th crown.

But winning driving titles is nothing new for Parker, who also managed to be the King of the Hill two seasons at Yonkers Raceway before deciding to return home to the Mighty M in the early 2000s.

He has also won titles at Scarborough Downs and Lewiston Raceway in his home state of Maine and at Foxboro Raceway in Massachusetts before coming to Monticello Raceway in 1984.

On October 25 Parker will be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Monticello-Goshen USHWA Chapter Banquet at Kutshers Country Club in Monticello, N.Y.

Baby Boy Grin wins featured trot at Pocono Downs

Wilkes-Barre, PABaby Boy Grin, driven by Larry Stalbaum and trained by Kimberly Asher, made it four straight in capturing the $30,000 Open I Handicap Trot at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs Tuesday evening.

A newcomer to the racing wars at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs and a winner of three previous races at Yonkers Raceway, Baby Boy Grin won by some two lengths over a hard-closing Scorpion Moon (Joe Pavia, Jr.) with Macho Lindy (Eric Goodell) finishing third with the timer reading 1:53.4. That is a new lifetime mark for Baby Boy Grin.

Macho Lindy was the opening split leader in :27.2 before Big Boy Lloyd (George Napolitano, Jr.) got on the front end and was the new leader at the half clocked in :57. Stalbaum came first up down the backside and grabbed the lead, taking the eight horse field to the three-quarter pole in 1:24.1 followed by Big Boy Lloyd and Springboard (Jim Taggart, Jr.).
