Canadian pacer wins Monticello feature
Monticello, NY — R Es Queen Virgina, a 6-year-old daughter of Grinfromeartoear, rallied in the final strides to overtake the pace-setter, Park’em Out Missy, and win the pacing feature at Monticello Raceway on Monday afternoon.
Owned in New Brunswick by Stephen Mason and driven by Jordan Stratton, R Es Queen Virgina covered the mile in a time of 2:00.
After Brent Holland, driving Park’em Out Missy, gained command after the quarter pole Stratton moved R Es Queen Virgina out to challenge but Holland played hardball and wouldn’t allow Stratton and his mare to pass, so Stratton was content to sit on the limb without urging R Es Queen Virgina.
After that the two mares raced head-to-head past the half, around the clubhouse turn, up the backstretch and past the three-quarters with even fractions. At the top of the lane Park’em Out Missy and REs Queen Virgina were still nose to nose, but in the deep stretch R Es Queen Virgina moved to the lead and won the contest by a short length. Park’em Out Missy finished second with Double Dream third for Billy Parker, Jr.
Trained by Art Green, R Es Queen Virgina paid $9.50 for win.
