Zabielski-Coppola tandem win a pair at Saratoga

Saratoga Springs, NY — The 2009 season at Saratoga Raceway started out extremely well for the tandem of trainer Paul Zabielski and driver Frank Coppola, Jr. as they teamed up for a huge first month of the meet back in March. On Sunday, we again had flashes of the pair’s dominance as they partnered up for two wins on the matinee card.

Please Sweetie won the 11th race on Sunday at Saratoga with Frank Coppola, Jr. in the bike.

Please Sweetie looked to be in a tough spot at the half when the favorite was shuffled back and lacked racing room. When the mare shook free at the three-quarters, she meant business and came on to win the day’s 11th race.

Coppola and Zabielski would head right back to the Saratoga winner’s circle as Bluebird Superstar put up by far her best effort of the season and recorded a win in the 12th race.

The training double for Zabielski was one of three on the day for local trainers as Heidi Rohr and Claude Huckabone, Jr. also tallied a pair of wins on Sunday afternoon.
