Road to the Meadowlands Pace

by Ken Warkentin

LAST WEEK, EARLY LINE, HORSE, TRAINER, OWNER, THE SCOOP

1, 2-1, ROCKNROLL HANOVER, Brett Pelling, Jeff Snyder and Lothlorien Equestrian, won NA Cup elim. “He impressed me,” said Pelling. “I believe strength is more his game than speed, and it doesn’t look like speed is an issue either.”

3, 5-2, STONEBRIDGE REGAL, Bob McIntosh, R. Kaufman, Angie Stiller, R. McIntosh, W Springtime, won NA Cup elim. “I trained him up big for this one, and I admit I was nervous, since I hoped to see the real ‘Regal’ back, and here he is,” said McIntosh.

10, 4-1, RUNOVER FEELING, Kelly O’Donnell, Jack Tramonte and Ed Mullinax, won NA Cup elim. “He reminds me of (2002 NA Cup winner) Red River Hanover, just 400 pounds lighter,” said Luc Ouellette. “He was comfortable at the wire.”

2, 6-1, VILLAGE JOLT, Ed Hart, Jeff Snyder, Arlene and Jules Siegel. “He scoped very sick after the (NA Cup elim), right now we’re going to give him a week or two off, and I think the Meadowlands Pace is a question mark,” said Hart. “We’ll see how he comes along. We’ll scope him again. The main focus is to get him healthy.”

NOT RANKED, 8-1, LOAD THE DICE, Chris Ryder, Brittany Farms and Daisy Acres. “He’s no surprise, he’s always been a good one, but I don’t know who’s better now, him or Dawn Ofa New Day (1:50.3 NJSS winner on June 4),” said Ryder.

4, 10-1, LEADING X AMPLE, Bill Elliott, Leading X Ample Stable. “He came out of the race (third in NA Cup elim) pretty good,” said Elliott. “I took his blood on Monday, and it came back good. We’ll just jog him lightly and train him a bit on Thursday. Tidewater is also in the final.”

NOT RANKED, 12-1, AMERICAN IDEAL, Casie Coleman, Mac Nichol, St Albert AB and Brittany Farms. “He raced great (in NA Cup elim), but coming down the lane there was a white scalper on the track, he kind of leaped over it and made a bobble,” said Coleman. “I think it cost him second place.”

9, 15-1, CAM’S FOOL, Brett Pelling, Jeff Snyder and Lothlorien Equestrian. “He was really getting it on the end of the mile (for second in NA Cup elim),” Pelling said. “John (Campbell) drove him great, so he’s a bonus.”

6, 15-1, SYNCRO’S Z TAM, Patrick Lachance, MJGB Racing Stable and Pat Lachance, won Keystone Classic division at the Meadows, 1:52.4. “He has a week off for sure,” said Pat Lachance.

8, 20-1, TEAM HUTCH, Homer Hochstetler, Joy and Bonnie Hutchison, won all five starts in 2005, last was 1:53.1 mile at Hawthorne. Week off before Hoosier Cup on June 25.
