Rookie filly is the one to watch in Silver Reign

Toronto, ON — She has a mere two starts under her belt (three, if you count her qualifier at Mohawk on February 20), but so far she’s found the winner’s circle on every outing. Now, a black Astreos filly named Warrawee Koine is the overwhelming morning line favorite going into the C$20,000 second leg of the Silver Reign Pacing Series for 3-year-old fillies.

Warrawee Koine is the morning line favorite going into the C$20,000 second leg of the Silver Reign Pacing Series.

In the opening round of the series last Monday, Warrawee Koine impressed, despite her greenness, when she dug in deep to fend off a charging Have A Cigar in the final strides.

Gregg McNair trains the strapping homebred filly, who was unraced at 2, for Dr. Mike Wilson of Warrawee Farm in Rockwood.

Also in this field is Mylittlerebel, the Murray Brethour pupil who captured two legs of the Miss Vera Bars Series at Woodbine in February.

Having taken a short vacation, she failed to impress in her first start back last week, never really getting underway in a crowded field of 12 fillies. Monday night’s Silver Reign sequel, however, has a more manageable field of 10, and Mylittlerebel will leave from the middle of the pack in post five. With a little racing luck, she may demonstrate a return to form.

Catch the second leg of the Silver Reign Pacing Series on Monday night, March 16, at Woodbine. It’s race five, post time 8:46 p.m.
