Rose Run Gold Rush sets track and world record

New Kent, VA — Robert Kauffman and Danny Collins’ Rose Run Gold Rush set a new track and world record of 1:54 for three-year-old filly trotters on a greater than one mile track with her fourth straight win at Colonial Downs on Halloween night, October 31.

Rose Run Gold Rush eclipsed the 1:54.3 mark set by Lassie’s Goal in the 1998 Breeders Crown.

Driver Del S. Miller sent Rose Run Gold Rush right for the front to establish a one and a half length lead over favored Striking Rum after a quarter in :27.1. Rose Run Gold Rush picked up speed down the backstretch and stretched her advantage to two and a half lengths as the field hit the turn. Striking Rum narrowed the gap around the turn but Rose Run Gold Rush was still on top by one and a quarter lengths as she hit the top of the lane. Rose Run Gold Rush spurted away from Striking Rum, but was quickly tackled by a fast closing Duya Kid. Rose Run Gold Rush responded to the challenge in deep stretch and stubbornly held off Duya Kid by a neck. Rally By The River closed from last to get third.

The win was Rose Run Gold Rush’s fifth of the season from 14 starts for trainer Gro Formia. The filly is undefeated at Colonial in four tries.
