Matt Rose offers his picks for the $15,000 Pick 4 at Yonkers Raceway on April 11, part of the USTA Strategic Wagering program.

Yonkers Raceway Pick 4, Monday, April 11, 2011

The play: 1,6 / 4,7 / 4,8 / ALL = $64.

Race 7:

#1 TOUGH LOVE stayed glued to the rail chasing a fast pace last out and was never a serious threat at a big price. Tonight he lands the rail, has the aggressive Larry Stalbaum driving again and he can be counted on to secure at least a pocket ride. #6 I’M CONFIDENT hails from the potent Lou Pena/George Brennan tandem, which can never be ignored. This gelding has been first or second in nine-of-ten local starts and it’s almost guaranteed that he’ll be firing from the gate.

Race 8:

#4 FOX VALLEY TYRESE returns locally, taking a big plunge in price despite some solid efforts versus $75,000 claimers. I suppose that could raise some eyebrows, but he is impossible to overlook against these. #7 DVCFLYINGFRENCHMAN is a head shy of a three race win streak since Lou Pena claimed him for $20,000. He’ll be expected to be blasting from this spot.

Race 9:

#4 MR TERRY FRA is one of those rare Pena charges that doesn’t rely on blazing gate speed, instead, he’s grinded out two consecutive victories versus slightly lesser. He may need a bit of help tonight, but he still deserves top billing. #8 LILSHARKSHOOTER has enough gate speed to easily overcome the eight hole and he may control the action on the front end.

Race 10:

This looks like a race where six horses could legitimately win, so I might as well hit the ALL button. If I had to narrow it down, I would focus on #1 LOMBO POWERSHOT A, who has been rock-solid for Stalbaum and he gets post relief tonight; #4 BJ’s BEQUIA, who gets tested for class but has been hard to fault recently; #5 SFUMATO, who gets a driver change that could wake him up and #7 MACRAIDER N, who has been the unofficial King of the $50,000 claimers.
