by Matt Rose

Matt Rose offers his picks for the $20,000 Pick 4 at Yonkers Raceway on May 9, part of the USTA Strategic Wagering program.

Yonkers Raceway Pick 4, Races 7-10, Monday, May 9, 2011

$1 play: 13/2346/26/38 = $32

Analysis:

Race 7: (3) Kandi Chip has raced well in all four starts for the Laterza barn, including his last effort where he closed crisply into a rated pace. Brian Sears should have the veteran in a perfect striking spot from this post. (1) Driven To Succeed debuts for Chris Marino off the claim, and he has plenty of speed with the best draw. He’s capable of bouncing back from last week’s dull effort.

Race 8: (2) KDK Bellagio was used hard early last out to secure good position, then came up a touch flat late, but it was an improved effort. He keeps Brennan tonight and could get lucky from this spot. (4) Manchine is usually overlooked at the windows, but his recent efforts have been decent. He’s capable here with a live trip. (6) Eragon has been dead-game in his last four, and if he was still with Josh Green, he would probably be singled on my ticket. With the claim and new barn, it’s an excuse to look elsewhere for value. (3) May Day Jojo has finished with sneaky pace in his last two for board spots. He’s another here that could save ground and get lucky late.

Race 9: (6) New Release has effortlessly taken six in a row, and was shut down last week coming to the wire. He bumps up another notch in class tonight, but that shouldn’t present too much of a problem. (2) Windsong Fortune jogged first-time for Banca, but he loses Brennan to the Pena trainee. Looks clearly second best here.

Race 10: (3) Giacometti set a solid pace on the engine and was outbattled, but held gamely for second. The fact that his primary competition is stuck in the eight hole gives this veteran a huge shot tonight. (8) Wayne The Lefty has been rock-solid in his four local starts this season. He can’t win this from last however, so expect Brian Sears to float out early and get a midpack tuck.
