Saqqara Dream off to good start in 2009

Toronto, ON — Her sophomore season wasn’t all that impressive, with just one win in nine starts, and under C$25,000 earned. But Saqqara Dream seems to be coming into her own at four. So far, she is unbeaten in two starts in 2009, under the direction of new tutor Trond Smedshammer, and new owners Deo Volente Farm, who purchased the daughter of Andover Hall from the Reve Avec Moi/Dream With Me Stable last September.

Last week, with Luc Ouellette at the wheel for the first time, Saqqara Dream overcame Frenchfrysnvinegar (Paul MacDonell) and the fast-closing La Dolce (Chris Christoforou) to score by nearly five lengths in the second leg of the Lifetime Dream Trotting Series, for 4-year-old mares who are non-winners of C$100,000 lifetime. Now she is positioned as the 2-1 morning line favorite for the C$57,100 final, this Monday, January 19, at Woodbine.

To extend her win streak to three, however, she will not only have to outgun fellow second-round winners Afternoon Dreams and Ocean Mist Dynasty, both hailing from the shedrow of Ben Baillargeon, but also local favorite Mojo N The Morning, who sat out the second leg of the series, but was an authoritative winner in the opener on January 5. Frank Colville trains the homebred daughter of Angus Hall, who may be a bargain on Monday night at 7-1.

The exciting final of the Lifetime Dream Trotting Series is slated to go postward as race four, post time 8:24 p.m. (EST).
