HAMBURG, NY— Camaes Eclipse, a 5-year old mare by Astreos registered her second win of the season in the $7,500 featured Filly and Mare pace here at Buffalo Raceway Friday night (April 25). Owned and trained by Steve Weaver of Cheektowaga, NY, Camaes Eclipse covered the mile in 1:58, a season’s best, over a fast track.

Leaving from post two in the field of eight, and driven by reinsman Kevin Cummings, Camaes Eclipse ($9.60) settled in third as the eventual third place finisher and prohibitive favorite, Gemini Jeannie (Dan Yetman) cut the early fractions in the race, :28.4, :57.4, and 1:28. Just before the half-mile pole, Cummings swung Camaes Eclipse to the outside, and as the field hit the top of the stretch, they had the lead, which they never relinquished. Otherpeoplesmoney (Jim McNeight) rallied from fifth for most of the race to finish second.

“She raced real good,” said Cummings. “Being first-over was a rough trip though. I wanted to put her on the lead, but she was a little shaky in the first turn. It all worked out for the best, and Steve’s done a great job with her.”

For Camaes Eclipse, the $3,750 share of the purse boosted her 2008 earnings to $9,919 and $128,219 lifetime.
