Second leg of Hiram Woodruff contested

East Rutherford, NJ — Slave Dream made it two in a row after prevailing in the first of two $18,000 Hiram Woodruff legs Thursday night at the Meadowlands.

Slave Dream prevailed in 1:53.4 in the first of two $18,000 Hiram Woodruff legs Thursday night at the Meadowlands.

Twin B Navigator hustled up the backstretch, passed tiring leaders and parked the stalking Slave Dream around the far turn. The two began slugging it out down the stretch with Slave Dream breaking away an eighth of a mile before the finish and holding on to win the night’s third race in 1:53.4. Knight of Intrigue [$3.20 $3.80] finished 3-1/2 lengths behind in second. Aisling [$4.60] finished third, with Twin B Navigator falling back to fourth.

Slave Dream increased his lifetime earnings to $179,759 for owners Franco Cianci and Isidoro Russo. The son of Pearsall Hanover-Hunarie F has now won 6 of 9 starts this year for trainer Pierre Couture.

With driver Andy Miller in tow, Stood Alone [$12.20 $4.60 $3.60] made a brush up the pylons in the stretch to take the second division of the $18,000 Hiram Woodruff in 1:53.2. John Paul’s Legacy [$3.20 $3.20] finished second and Rompaway Alvin [$4.40] was third.

The Hiram Woodruff concludes with a $46,500 final on Thursday, May 21.
