Sempre Pronto gets the outside at Yonkers

by Frank Drucker, publicity director, Yonkers Raceway

Yonkers, NY — Sempre Pronto was ordered to the outside starting post position for Saturday night’s $15,000 Open Handicap Pace at Yonkers Raceway.

Post time for the 11 race card is 7:40 p.m., with the weekly featured pace going as the sixth race.

Sempre Pronto (Jim Marohn, post seven) was a solid second to the talented — and not here this week — Glen Mark Lucky in last week’s Open ‘Cap. The five-year-old son of Northern Luck has hit the board in his last three tries and goes after his seventh win of the season. He enters with career earnings of just under $220,000 for owner Joseph Petrera and trainer Eldo Leonelli.

Goin’ To The Beach (Mark Beckwith, post six) hits town for his first visit since last September. The eight-year-old son of Beach Towel was a consistent payday procurer in the East Rutherford claiming ranks for co-owners Brian Nixon and Aubrey Friedman. Geraldine Kearns trains the career winner of more than $362,000, who has been board-certified in 14 of 27 ’04 efforts.

Rakin N The Bucks (Driver TBA, post five), another refugee from the big-track claimers, makes his local debut. The four-year-old Park Place gelding, trained by Julius Czermann, Jr. for co-owners Fred and Anita Fialkow, is just two for 26 on the season but has managed to sock away more than $47,000.

Our Galvinator A (Driver TBA, post one) handled the high-conditioned crowd the last (and only) time he showed his face in these parts (mid-July), while Ginny’s Five Six (Stephane Bouchard, post three) was a long-mile third (as the 11-10 favorite) in his first local try. He takes an ambitious class hike Saturday.

Deft Hand N (Mark Lewis, post two) was a winner late last month in his most recent local sojourn, while Franco Saga N (Driver TBA, post four) moves up after drilling the winners over wonderland a week ago.

Saturday’s evening simulcast schedule includes Northfield (post time 7:00), Raceway (7:00), Saratoga (7:00), Penn National (7:20), Pompano (7:20) and Evangeline (7:45).

Yonkers is also offering the complete Adios Day card from the Meadows, with first post at 12:40 p.m.

Yonkers’ current four night per week schedule (Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday) has a first post at 7:40 p.m. Afternoon simulcasting continues to be offered around the NYRA schedule.

August’s evening/harness simulcast schedule includes Buffalo Raceway, Del Mar, Evangeline Downs, Freehold Raceway, Hawthorne Racecourse, Hazel Park, the Meadows, Monticello Raceway, Northfield Park, Ocean Downs, Penn National, Pocono Downs, Pompano Park, Raceway Park, Red Mile, Rockingham Park, Saratoga Raceway, Scioto Downs and Springfield (IL) Fair.
