Toronto, ON — The Celias Counsel Trotting Series for three-year-old fillies continued on Tuesday evening at Woodbine and saw Sensual Hall and Givemearing get their pictures taken after their respective miles.

Firing off second-over cover, Sensual Hall ($4.90, $3.70, $2.40) and driver Tony Kerwood drew away from their rivals in the opening division and posted a three length margin of victory in 1:59.2.

After Kerwood flushed her out of the three hole in the backstretch, Malgebra ($12.00, $4.60), who was in rein to trainer/driver Ron Waples, went first-up and finished second, bottoming out the $45.50 exactor. Northern Bonnet ($2.80), who was driven by Roger Mayotte for trainer Bob Atkin, recorded the early fractions (:29.2, :59.4, and 1:30.2) and hung on for third, finishing three and a quarter lengths in arrears and completing the $97.30 triactor.

Sensual Hall (Garland Lobell—Stormont Jazz), who is owned by Idylwood Stables Inc. and Watkins Equine Inc., started from post five and nestled into the four hole early. After receiving tight cover through the final turn, it was game over for the field when Kerwood asked the Philip Coole trainee for trot in the stretch.

After being sent off as the 1-2 favourite in last week’s opening leg, Sensual Hall faltered late in the mile and finished third.

When asked this Tuesday evening in the winner’s circle, Kerwood shed some light on Sensual Hall.

“Coole had treated her up for a little sickness -– because he has some sickness in his barn -– and it seemed to bring her around a little bit, so we are hoping that that was it,” Kerwood stated. “We also got a good trip tonight and things worked out.”

So far this year, Sensual Hall has amassed $23,439 in earnings from eight starts and now sports a record of 2-1-4 after being unraced as a two-year-old.

Trevor Ritchie piloted Givemearing to victory in their division of the Celias Counsel Trotting Series.

After leaving from post eight in the second division with driver Trevor Ritchie in the bike, Givemearing ($7.80, $3.40, $3.20) wired her rivals, trotting to a two length victory in a life’s mark clocking of 1:57.2 for trainer Harald Lunde.

After taking a pocket ride through fractions of :28.2, :58.4 and 1:28.1, Whitesand Samantha ($2.60, $2.50), who was driven by Paul MacDonell for conditioner Scott McEneny, couldn’t get up in the late stages and completed the $32.70 exactor. Chuckalo Beckster ($5.60), who was piloted by Mark MacDonald for owner/trainer Chuck Thompson, finished eight and a quarter lengths in arrears and bottomed out the $174.30 triactor.

Givemearing (Yankee Glide—Fling Ding), who is owned by Oslo, Norway’s Kjell Magne Anderson and Fowler, Ohio’s Troy Mollohan, trotted to her first win in two starts this year. In her first start of the year last week in the opening leg, the bay cut all of the fractions, but was caught late and finished second.

With the win, Givemearing nearly doubled her career earnings, which now sit at $14,446.

The Celias Counsel Series -– which is restricted to non-winners of C$30,000 in 2004 -– will conclude next Tuesday at Woodbine with its C$50,400 (est.) final.

Diplomat Series set to start Friday

16 three-year-olds have been drawn into a pair of C$25,000 opening leg divisions of the Diplomat Pacing Series (formerly known as the Mohawk Pacing Series), which will go to post Friday evening at Woodbine.

There will be a Bob McIntosh-trained entry racing in each of the dashes, as I Zee (post four, Jack Moiseyev) and Arties Samartie (post two, Jack Moiseyev) are slated to perform in the opener (race three, 8:20 p.m.), while Stonebridge Regal (post six, Jack Moiseyev) and Ijustdontgiveacam (post five, Jack Moiseyev) are set to pace in the second division (race 10, 10:40 p.m.).

The Diplomat Series -– which is restricted to non-winners of C$50,000 in 2004 –– will have its C$25,000 second leg raced on April 29, while the C$92,500 (est.) final is scheduled for May 6.

I Zee, who had his perfect five-for-five record blemished after a second place finish in the C$60,600 final of the Youthful Series, will again search for the winner’s circle in Friday’s opening leg. Although the Western Hanover—Firstariseetonight colt was finally handed his first defeat in the Youthful finale, that performance should not be viewed as a detriment. After recording a pair 1:53.1 victories in the preliminary legs, the bay was handed post position 10 for the final. The career winner of $48,180 had reinsman Chris Christoforou at his lines for the first time and raced overland with cover through the middle half-mile. Having tipped wide off cover early in the stretch, I Zee still came home in :27 flat and finished three lengths in arrears of his victorious and bold stablemate, Stonebridge Regal, who paced the mile in a stakes record 1:51.1 after leaving from the rail.

I Zee is owned by McIntosh along with Paul Ysebaert, Clifford Grundy and the CSX Stables.

Arties Samartie, who was the also eligible for the Youthful final, has drawn the two hole in the first division. The bay Artiscape—Sammies Cammi colt sports a 2-2-1 record and $18,196 in earnings after six starts this campaign. He posted a fifth and third place finish in the Youthful preliminaries, but still paced in 1:53 and change in those dashes, coming home with :27.3 final quarter-miles. McIntosh owns the colt along with Leo Beaudoin, David Kryway and Leda Farms.

Blueridge Dbang (post eight, Paul MacDonell), who raced well throughout the Youthful, has drawn the outside post position for trainer Dustin Jones.

Stonebridge Regal, who was dominant in his victory in the Youthful final, headlines the second division. The Artsplace—Lady Joanna bay went gate-to-wire in that stakes record-lowering mile, leaving to the first call in :25.3; going to the half in :54.4; and flying home in :26.4. The colt, who was unraced as a two-year-old, has $55,516 in earnings via his 5-2-0 record this season.

Stonebridge Regal is owned in partnership by McIntosh, Robert Kauffman, Angie Stiller and the Springtime Racing Stable.

Ijustdontgiveacam, who scored a victory in the opening leg of the Youthful, will be looking to start fresh in the Diplomat. After skipping the second leg of the Youthful, Ijustdontgiveacam (Camluck—Julie Seelster) had driver Mark MacDonald at his lines for the first time in the final. In that mile, the bay colt was overland at each call and eventually finished eighth, nine and three-quarter lengths in arrears of Stonebridge Regal. Owned by his trainer along with Al McIntosh and James Machan, Ijustdontgiveacam, who has a 5-2-0 record after nine starts this season, took his mark of 1:53.3 during a leg of the Apaches Fame Series.

Caviarandsoftmusic (post three, Jody Jamieson) will be making his first start of the season in the Diplomat’s second division, while Lis Mara (post eight, Paul MacKenzie), who paced a 1:54.1 gate-to-wire mile over Flamboro Downs’ half-miler on April 9, has drawn the outside post.
