Shadow Play scratched from Canadian Pacing Derby

Campbellville, ON — Shadow Play has been scratched sick from the C$685,000 Canadian Pacing Derby at Mohawk, continuing what has been a sometimes frustrating campaign for the 4-year-old pacer.

His trainer and co-owner, Dr. Ian Moore, told the WEG media department that a combination of things added up to the horse not being able to compete this week and that it has been a very trying three-month period.

“It’s been a tough stretch,” he said. “I really think he can compete with the best out there when he’s right. In fact, he’s already shown that. I’m hopeful we can have him ready for maybe the Winbak Pace on Jug week and then perhaps Lexington after that.”

With Shadow Play out, Eagle Luck has drawn in off the also eligible list for trainer Gregg McNair and will start from post seven in the 10-horse field with son Doug doing the driving.

Dr. Moore also reported that Malicious has had a very good week in preparation for the C$1 million Metro Pace. He was out for a light jog Saturday morning and Moore said he felt sharp and ready to go.
