Soho, Bedrock Cafe N win Dover features

Dover, DE — Soho rushed away from the outside to take the lead and never relinquished it en route to a 1:531 victory in the $27,500 Preferred Handicap Pace, while Bedrock Café N stormed the passing lane to win the $25,000 Delaware Special in 1:532 on Monday, January 19 at Dover Downs. Brad Hanners drove five winners while owner Gary Wolf had three winners.

Soho and Kevin Sizer were the easy winners in the Preferred Handicap Pace at Dover.

Kevin Sizer hustled Schoor-th Stable and Val D’or Farms’ Soho into the early lead, shaking off a challenge from Monsoon Hall at the half and then cruised to his second win in three starts. Moonsoon Hall (Ricky Still) managed to find room behind the winner on the backstretch and continued on to finish second. Cambest Prince (Greg Grismore) took show honors. Soho, a five-year-old Northern Luck horse has now won $519,210 lifetime.

Bedrock Cafe N used the passing lane to secure the victory in Monday’s Delaware Special.

In the $25,000 Delaware Special, Kenny Mitchell driving Bedrock Café N sat comfortably behind battling leader Crew Cut Zach (Brad Hanners) and The Devil Himself (Travis Bowman) from mid-backstretch until deep in the stretch, before scooting along the passing lane to score a 1:532 victory. Crew Cut Zach hung tough to finish second with The Devil Himself third. The win was the second in three starts in 2004 for Bedrock Café N, who was claimed after his previous start for $40,000 by Johnny Waite. The victory pushed Bedrock Café N to career earnings of $205,830.

Jeffrey Franklin’s Clinton Debriefed, just honored as the Maritimes Horse of the Year for 2003, came out of third after the half and rolled on for a 1:534 victory in a $17,500 Winners Over Pace with Travis Bowman in the bike. Cocky Cam Shark (Vic Kirby) closed to finish second with Bolero Hanover (Eddie Davis, Jr.) the third finisher.

Mitch and Pearl Fisher’s Future Treasure was in the right spot at the right time to win the $15,500 Delaware Winners Over Pace. Art Stafford, Jr. raced along the inside as Getaway Hall (Kevin Sizer) held off an assault by three rivals on the backstretch and to the top of the stretch. Getaway Hall shook off those pursuers but Future Treasure zipped up the passing lane to take a 1:533 win. Getaway Hall held on for second. El Gees Mr Q (Rusty Thomas) was third.

Rapid Jewel took command on the final turn and held off a late charge from Crown Jewel to score a 1:543 victory in a $12,500 conditioned pace. It was the fourth win of the night for track-leading driver Brad Hanners and second win for trainer Kevin Lare. Primary Colours N (Steve Warrington) finished third.

Hanners also steered owner Gary Wolf’s first win of the day, Wynfield Bob, to victory in 1:562 to win the first of three $30,000 claiming paces. Franco Conquest N (Steve Warrington) was a strong second. Shadow Make A (Ross Wolfenden) was the show horse.

Wolf’s second win came when Ross Wolfenden shot Herb Abbe N along the passing lane to notch a 1:554 triumph in a $25,000 claiming pace. Whatayasay (Kevin Sizer) closed late to edge a gallant front-pacing Red Ball Express (Brad Hanners) for second.

Wolf and Brad Hanners teamed up again when Pinehaven Harry was an easy 1:543 winner in a $25,000 claiming allowance. Mr Prez (Ricky Still) was runner-up with Keystone Reggie (Dave Hill) third.

El Lobo’s No Option made it three wins in a row, taking the second $30,000 claiming allowance as Hanners steered a 1:55 victory. Mr Touring (Steve Warrington) came on for second in front of Heyyowatzup N (Ross Wolfenden).

Stormy Albert, driven by Steve Warrington, overtook Lar’s Legacy (Jim Morand) approaching the three-quarter pole and then sped to a 1:54 victory in the other $30,000 claiming pace. Decent Card (Roger Plante) edged Lar’s Legacy for place honors.

Hanners’ other win came in a $25,000 claiming pace, steering Bill Bignall’s Scotchontherocks to victory in 1:562, the second win for trainer Phil Goldwater. Bo Knows Trouble (Roger Plante) secured third money.

Recent arrival Greg Grismore, one of the sport’s top 10 dash-win drivers during 2003, scored his first local win, guiding Green Racing’s Tonros Prince A to a 1:554 victory in a $12,500 Delaware claiming pace. Be The Bunny (Bret Brittingham) and Cowboy Baby (Rusty Thomas) were second and third respectively.

Monday through Thursday post time at Dover Downs is 4:30. There is no live racing on Fridays. Saturday and Sunday racing starts at 5:30 p.m. No charge for parking or admission.
