Toronto, ON — SOS Breezer turned in a monstrous effort to capture Sunday night’s (April 22) $44,856 Tie Silk Trotting Series Final for driver Randy Waples in 1:56.

The clocking established a new stakes record for the Tie Silk, lowering the previous mark of 1:56.4 set last year by Long On Ability.

With Waples in the bike, the 3-year-old son of Like A Prayer-La Luz Fantasia got away fifth in the early going from post two. The pair watched as Ucaneverspenditall put up a quick opening quarter of :27.4.

Approaching the half, Javaris tipped out from fourth and took a shot at the lead, but was left parked out by the pacesetter through a :58.2 opening half. At that point, Waples had his charge on the move and made a snap decision to move three-wide and was able to quickly brush past to grab the lead.

Once on top, SOS Breezer faced almost immediate pressure from race favorite Renaissance Man, who came up to challenge for the lead. He, in turn, had round one winner Rose Run Invader hot on his heels, setting the stage for a thrilling stretch drive.

The final outcome was in doubt right until the last stride with SOS Breezer holding on by a diminishing nose over Renaissance Man. Rose Run Invader was a lapped on third.

The victory was the second in nine starts this season for the colt who is trained by Gary Kingshott for wife, Henrietta, who owns. The winner’s share of the purse pushed his 2007 bankroll to just over $40,000.
