Spice Queen extends winning streak to seven

Freehold, NJ — Spice Queen remained on fire, extending her winning streak to seven with a tally in the $26,800 opening leg of the New Jersey Sires Stakes for 3-year-old trotting fillies on Thursday (August 23) at Freehold Raceway.

In a wire-to-wire performance, Spice Queen ($2.20, $2.40, $2.10) drew off to a 3-1/2 length victory over Chez Lucie ($7.20, $2.10), a daughter of Malabar Man. Batbreaker ($2.10), who is by Muscles Yankee, was third by 4-1/4 lengths.

Spice Queen, driven by David Miller and trained by Erv Miller, trotted the seventh race mile in 2:00.1. She annexed the $85,000 Helen Smith Final in her prior start.

A 3-year-old bay daughter of Yankee Glide, out of The Big Enchilada, Spice Queen is a perfect seven-for-seven in 2007 and the winner of seven of nine lifetime outings. She has earnings of $72,770 for brothers Norman Smiley of Boca Raton, Fla. and Gerald Smiley of Cote Saint-Luc, Quebec.

In the $27,400 first division of the NJSS, carded as the fifth race, the victory also went to a daughter of Yankee Glide, Keystone Celeste ($23.40, $10.00, $7.00), who held on for a neck victory over Victoria Volo ($3.40, $2.80), a daughter of Dream Vacation. It was two lengths back to the Self Possessed filly Vivanova Vita ($3.60) in third.

Keystone Celeste, who picked up her sixth win in 12 starts this year, trotted the mile in 1:58.2. She is trained, driven and owned by Todd Schadel of Gratz, Pa.
