Spin Rate was a winner in SRF Pace

by Gen Sullivan, for the Standardbred Retirement Foundation

Freehold, NJ — Just 3-years-old, he is a long way from retiring. Spin Rate crushed the competition in the $40,000 Standardbred Retirement Foundation Pace at The Meadowlands on July 21.

With Ron Pierce in the bike for trainer Kelly O’Donnell and owners Joseph Petrera and Robert Pucila, the Allamerican Ingot colt exploded in the stretch, drawing off to win by five lengths in a career best 1:50.2.

A $19,000 yearling purchase, Spin Rate has now earned $213,992 for his connections. He also won the Matt’s Scooter Final in March at the Meadowlands.

In May, Big Business, a son of Dragon Again, won the Standardbred Retirement Foundation Pace at Freehold Raceway.

Eligibility to both SRF races was determined by the donation of a stallion breeding to SRF for the 2007 season. One breeding donation guaranteed that all of that stallion’s sons or daughters were eligible to both races.
