SRF Pace attracts full field

by Gen Sullivan, for the Standardbred Retirement Foundation

Freehold, NJ — Freehold Raceway will host the first of two Standardbred Retirement Foundation (SRF) Open Paces for 3-year-old pacers on Saturday, May 12.

The second SRF Race is at The Meadowlands on July 21.

A full field of eight entered the $31,000 race, the seventh on the Freehold card.

The post time favorite is likely to be Liberated Artist, a Real Artist colt owned by Seth Rosenfeld and John Lichtenberger, and trained by Larry Remmen. Brian Sears is listed to drive from post position number five. Liberated Artist has been first or second in four of five starts this season.

Eligibility to the SRF races is determined by the gift of a donated breeding to SRF. The gift of a single breeding to a stallion in 2007 to SRF automatically made all 3-year-old progeny of each sire eligible to both SRF races.

Raced every year since 1994, the SRF races have generated more than $1.5 million in purse money.

The Standardbred Retirement Foundation is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization founded in 1989. It is harness racing’s oldest, most successful award winning program of its kind. SRF has completed over 2,000 adoptions, and is currently caring for 140 horses awaiting homes.
