by John Manzi, publicity director, Monticello Raceway

It’s official, Larry Stalbaum has arrived. Though he previously won 17 races here at Monticello Raceway since he moved in from the Midwest the former Michigan driving champion put on a clinic winning six races on the Tuesday, June 14th race card.

Stalbaum started his assault in the second race with a 2:03:2 trotting victory with SF Premium($6.10)and then reeled off a 1:59:1 triumph with Oscar Dielahoya ($5.70) in the fourth and came back to score with He’s The Most ($17.20) in 1:57:1 the fifth.

In the ninth race Stalbaum drove In A Flash ($9.50) to a 1:59:2 triumph and then won the tenth, the $10,000 pacing co-feature with Shadows Best Buddy ($4.10) in 1:56:1. He finished his brilliant driving display reining Hey Waymon to a 1:57:1 victory in the 12th race on the program.

When asked about his six-victory afternoon Stalbaum said lightheartedly: “I guess I used up all my bad drives last week,” and then added more seriously “we had most of them (the horses) in the right spot (class), and we got a little lucky.”

The $12,000 weekly pacing feature in race eight went to Carlspur and driver Stephane Bouchard over Chad Lefleur and Billy Parker, Jr. in a time of 1:54:3.
