Campbellville, ON — Daughters of Striking Sahbra took two of the four C$40,000 Ontario Sires Stakes Gold eliminations for 2-year-old filly trotters on Monday night (July 28) at Mohawk Racetrack.

Cumin First was the fastest OSS Gold winner with a 1:58.3 score for Rick Zeron.

Cumin First overcame post 10 to record her third consecutive victory for trainer Frank O’Reilly. She captured the first OSS Gold event of the season at Flamboro Downs on July 20 and now sits with $98,600 in seasonal earnings for owners Mary Anne Lauzon, Dr. Ruth Irving, Jim Fielding and John Jesson.

Dream Maker sequel to Evening Job, Automatic Slims

Trainer Carl Jamieson was shut out in the second leg of the Dream Maker series for 2-year-old pacing colts, as Bob McIntosh pupil Evening Job and Erv Miller’s Automatic Slims took the two C$20,000 splits in a special non-wagering event prior to the main card at Mohawk.

Evening Job and Randy Waples were 1:55 winners in their Dream Maker division.

A short field of six freshman lads went to the post in the first Dream Maker contest and it was Jamieson trainee Pence Hanover who set the early fractions. Randy Waples sent Evening Job, a son of Dream Work, out of the Presidential Ball mare Eve Of The Ball, out to overtake at the three-quarter pole and they quickly opened up a 2-1/2 length lead. Jody Jamieson gave chase in the stretch with Chief Of The Beach, but couldn’t catch Evening Job, who came to the wire 1-1/2 lengths ahead in 1:55. Bay Of Sharks, trained by Ben Wallace and driven by Mario Baillargeon, hung on for third.

This was the first career win in three starts for Evening Job, who is a homebred owned by the Robert McIntosh Stables.

Beaten last week by Artists Rally, Mark MacDonald and Automatic Slims got the job done in the series sequel, catching pacesetter Check On Jack (Jack Moiseyev) in the stretch and sailing home a length to the good in an identical clocking of 1:55. Jody Jamieson hustled Artists Rally up late to capture second, with Check On Jack hanging on for third in the short field of six.

Automatic Slims, a son of Bettor’s Delight-Natchitoches, was a $55,000 yearling purchase last year at Harrisburg for owner Domenic Chiaravalle. This was his second win in three starts and boosted his earnings to $17,550.

Carl Jamieson, who had a total of four entries in this series after Stampede Seelster was scratched sick on Monday night, ended up with two seconds (Chief Of The Beach and Artists Rally), a third (Check On Jack) and a fourth (Pence Hanover).
