Pompano Beach, FL – July 18, 2006 – The Sunshine Stakes for Florida-bred two and three-year-old trotters and pacers gets underway Wednesday at Pompano Park. Total purses for the six-week series are in excess of $400,000.
The trotters are in the limelight Wednesday with last year’s top two-year-old trotting colt, Admiral Nemo heading the 3rd race. A winner in 7 of his 11 starts and $65,000 in earnings, Admiral Nemo starts from post seven for driver Tommy Haughton and is the 5/2 favorite against return winner Alotofpossibilities (post 6) and Excalibur MC (post 4).
In one of the two filly trot divisions for three-year-old, J P Sage, a winner in 7 of 10 starts and $51,000 last season, starts from post one in the first race for trainer/driver Stephen Lareau and takes on six-time winner last year, Fimo, who starts from post six for driver Bruce Ranger.
The two and three-year-old filly pacers compete in the Sunshine Stakes on Friday and the colts and geldings start their first round of preliminary competition on Saturday.
