Third leg of Tioga Take-Down series contested

by Dustin Ross, for Tioga Downs

Nichols, NY — Tioga Downs held three $9,500 divisions of the third leg of the Tioga Take-Down series on Friday night (September 8).

Joe Pavia, Jr. and Upscale Hanover took the $9,500 division for pacers in 1:52.3. Coupled in the wagering with Outback Papeete, the Mark Ford trainees had a very productive night with Upscale Hanover winning and Outback Papeete finishing third from well off the pace, just three and three-quarter lengths back. Real Mystical and Kevin Sizer hung on for second for trainer Jim Ray.

The Federalist, steered by Mike Simons, won his split for trotters in 1:57.2. The 4-year-old son of Muscles Yankee won for the second time in 10 starts this year with a first over journey, and drew off to win by more than three lengths. The Federalist is owned by Martin Scharf of Lawrence, New York and is trained by Mark Ford.

Super Conway took the other division for trotters in gate-to-wire fashion in 1:56 with Joe Pavia, Jr. aboard. The 5-year-old son of Conway Hall is owned by Bernard Colletti of Monroe, New York and is trained by John Coughlin. Jabez and Brian Mattison raced a huge first over trip and finished second, while Bacon Hill Scott and Claude Huckabone III closed late to round out the show spot.

Tioga Downs will continue racing action on Sunday, September 10 with a post time of 12:45 p.m.
