This pacer is another work of art

Sacramento, CA — If last week’s debut win is any indication, big things are ahead for the 2-year-old pacer Artless, who left his rivals over five lengths in his wake in a coast-to-coast performance. He’s back in action on Thursday night (September 25).

The Power Of Art-Them There Eyes N homebred goes about his business for Team Desomer, and after fighting off a challenge turning for home, came away smartly in the final stages of last week’s 1:58.2 unveiling.

“He’s out of Them There Eyes, who was a New Zealand mare who won $104,000 and had a 1:53 mark,” trainer Vickie Desomer related. “We bought the mare from the late Lonnie Beck in 2003, but she did not produce a foal until Artless in 2006. She does have a filly at her side by Power Of Art and was bred back successfully to Ironridge this year.”

Artless looked every part the real deal in his bow with Steve Desomer doing the honors.

“He’s a very large 2-year-old with a good gait and a very willing attitude,” Vickie informed. “He’s been trouble-free thus far, so we’re looking forward to more good races.”

Speaking of top performers under the Desomer banner, Desomer said that the outstanding trotter Hitchiker is nearing a return to the wars. The 4-year-old son of Tulane has won 19 of his 24 starts and is undefeated in stakes action over this layout. He has a 1:54 mark that was established last season at the Meadowlands and is just shy of the $200,000 earnings plateau.

“We’re all happy with the way he’s been working for his return,” said his mentor.

By the way, when Hitchiker does suit up, he’ll be gunning for his 10th straight trip to the charmed enclosure.
