Freehold, NJ — Here is this week’s look back at some memorable dates in harness racing history.

May 14, 1979: Cam Fella, the Horse of the Year in 1982 and 1983, is born.

May 14, 1988: Wealthy Skipper wins the Windy City Pace in 1:55 at Maywood Park in Illinois.

May 15, 1998: B Cor Pete wins the first Arthur J. Cutler Memorial in 1:53.2 at the Meadowlands Racetrack in New Jersey.

May 16, 1992: Shady Daisy equals the world record for 4-year-old mares pacing on a five-eighths-mile track by winning in 1:52.2 at Scioto Downs in Ohio.

May 17, 1961: Western Fair Raceway opens in London, Ontario.

May 18, 1986: Turola Hanover equals the world record for female pacers on a five-eighths-mile track by winning in 1:54 at Northlands Park in Edmonton, Alberta.

May 19, 1995: She’s A Great Lady wins the Scarlett O’Hara in 1:54 at Scioto Downs.

May 19, 1877: Goldsmith Maid celebrates her 20th birthday by trotting in 2:14-1/2, just a half second off her world record performance set three years earlier.

May 20, 1950: Yonkers Raceway achieves $1 million in handle, a first in harness racing.

May 20, 2000: Western Ideal wins the richest Graduate ($325,000) in a then stakes record 1:48.3 at the Meadowlands.
