Tintabella N just in time at Pompano

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – Tintabella N unleashed a powerful late charge to thrust her nose in front in the shadow of the wire and steal a victory away from Velvet Eileen in Friday’s featured $14,000 Fillies and Mares Open Handicap Pace at Pompano Park.

Driven from post six by Daryl Bier, Tintabella N settled in seventh place through the early stages of the Friday feature as first Hypnotize (Kevin Wallis), and then Velvet Eileen (Wally Hennessey), showed the way through fractions of :27. and :56.4.

TINTABELLA N (#6), driven by Daryl Bier, edges past VELVET EILEEN, while holding off PRAIRIE TRACKER (#7), to win the featured $14,000 Fillies and Mares Open Handicap Pace at Pompano Park on Friday.

As the pacers made their way down the backstretch, Tintabella N was tipped to the outside and began gaining ground on the leader while moving up third-over, following the cover of Townline Lily (Bruce Ranger) and My Metallica (Anthony Napolitano) as Velvet Eileen hit the three-quarters marker in 1:25.2.

Velvet Eileen entered the lane with a 1-1/2 length advantage, and while the daughter of Mark Jonathan still controlled the race in deep stretch, she could not repel the late assault from Tintabella N, who rolled four-wide down the center of the track to take the lead in the final yards, scoring the victory in 1:55.3.

Owned by Glenn Del Russo and trained by Jenny Bier, Tintabella N has visited the Pompano Park winner’s circle nine times this year, and owns a seasonal bankroll of $87,645. Friday’s triumph ended an eight-race losing streak for the daughter of Tinted Cloud, who last prevailed on July 27.
