Todd Christy Memorial Trot for mares slated at Scioto

by Dean A. Hoffman, for Scioto Downs

Columbus, OH — Ohio horseman Todd Christy dearly loved a good trotting mare and he trained some very good mares during his long career. Scioto Downs will honor his memory when it cards the $15,000 Todd Christy Memorial Trot on Memorial Day.

The field of seven is headed by BV’s Sister, a 5-year-old mare with career earnings of $284,707. She won earlier this year in 1:56.4 in a qualifier at the Meadowlands but sports a 1:55.2 career mark taken last year. She was recently timed in 1:55.2 at Hoosier Park.

BV’s Sister is owned by Barnett Zimmerman LLC of Illinois and trained by Virgil Morgan, Jr., Scioto’s leading trainer in recent years. Chris Page will drive her.

Other standout trotting mares in the field include She’s Not Red, Chust Chudy, Pegasus Supreme, CJ’s Super Secret, American Pride, and Beehomeontime.

Christy died last Dec. 26 at age 71 after a brief illness. He was a native of Napoleon, Ohio, but relocated to Grove City in the 1980s and was a regular at Scioto Downs. His daughter Stacy Cahill is the general manager/racing operations at Scioto.

Christy took great pride in the accomplishments of mares like Overcharmer and Crown Crysta that he campaigned during their careers. Overcharmer earned $201,694 while taking a mark of 1:56.4f as a 4-year-old. Crown Crysta won in 1:56 as a 6-year-old and banked $121,949.

Memorial Day is also Family Day at Scioto Downs with free parking and free admission. Kids will enjoy clowns, face painters, and free pony rides starting at noon. Post time is 1 p.m.
