Tom’s OK Lady sets track record at Pocono

by James Beviglia, for Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs

Wilkes-Barre, PA — Tom’s OK Lady won the featured Open Handicap Trot on Tuesday afternoon (August 14) at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs and set a new track record in the process. The mare trotted the mile in 1:54, breaking the record of 1:54.2 for 4-year-old trotting mares set by Lifelong Victory back in 1996.

Tom’s OK Lady left from post position six in a field of seven and driver Greg Grismore immediately gunned her to the early lead. The rest of the field was left to chase from there on out, as the mare set fractional times of :27.4, :58.1 and 1:26.2. Scorpion Moon, the race favorite at 2-1, tried to come after the winner late from the pocket, but could do no better than second behind the 5-1 shot. Sand Prince was third.

The win came in Tom’s OK Lady’s first start at Pocono after shipping in from The Meadowlands. She now has four wins in her last six races and 14 wins in 26 lifetime starts.

Mickey Burke trains her for owners Sylvia Burke, Weaver Bruscemi, Bethann Palone, and M1 Stable of Pa.
