Top family stables battling for Pompano supremacy

Pompano Beach, FL — After the first month of the season, fueled by extensive action among Florida-breds, the race at the top of the trainer standings at the Isle of Capri at Pompano Park can be defined as a family affair. A pair of husband and wife combinations and a brother act stand atop the standings at the south Florida oval.

Currently leading the standings is the Lorenzo Stable of trainer Michile and her husband Rod. The Lorenzos have sent out 17 winners through Oct. 19.

A pair of stables are tied for second place, with 11 wins each. The wife and husband team of Kim and Jay Sears, a Florida Hall of Famer, have been winning in state-bred competition.

And Team Hennessey, the brother pairing of trainer Dan and Living Hall of Famer Wally also have 11 victories.

In the driver race, Bruce Ranger (61) and Wally Hennessey (35) have won 96 of 170 races contested.

Harness racing is currently being contested at Pompano Park on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights with a 7:05 p.m. post time.
