Batavia, NY — She was a world champion at 2 and Breeders Crown winner at 4, but Delinquent Account’s track record at Batavia Downs Gaming appears to be in serious jeopardy on Wednesday night (September 5) as the New York Sires Stakes rolls back into town.

On August 11, 1990, Delinquent Account established a new track record for 3-year-old pacing fillies at the historic track by winning in 1:56.1. The next year, in addition to winning the Breeders Crown, she should would go on to be voted older pacing mare of the year. She earned over $1 million in her career and is the dam of Artiscape, who earned over $1.4 million in his career and is now a very successful stallion.

Unfortunately for Delinquent Account, Paula’s Best returns to Batavia Downs. She set a track record last season for 2-year-old fillies, winning a Sires Stake event in 1:55 flat.

The first of three $54,585 New York Sires Stakes divisions is race four. Pancleefandarpels, a Noble Ability filly, starts out at 5-2 on the morning line. She has earned $95,895 this year and will be driven by Jim Morrill, Jr. for trainer Erv Miller.

Jet Let It Ride, a Bettor’s Delight offspring, starts out at 3-1 for trainer Linda Toscano and reinsman Stephane Bouchard.

Division two takes place in race seven. Daily Laugh, a Bettor’s Delight filly, is the 5-2 favorite. She has earned $60,475 and will have the services of John Wagner for trainer Charles Connor, Jr.

Southwind Prairie, another daughter of Bettor’s Delight, begins as the 3-1 second choice for driver Greg Grismore and trainer Andy Rickert.

On paper, division three, carded as race nine, appears to be the most contentious. Already three fillies in the seven-horse field have 2007 earnings of over $100,000 while another earned over a half million dollars last year.

Currently leading the 3-year-old filly division in points is 5-2 favorite Lislea Phia, a daughter of Lislea, who has earned $163,689 this season. Brian Cross will sit behind the talented filly for trainer Harry Harvey.

Paula’s Best (Pro Bono Best) figures to get quite a bit of attention at the windows, especially if anyone was in attendance to witness her track record performance last year. She has earned $122,158 this season. Jody Jamieson will be in from Canada to drive for trainer Ross Croghan.

J K Pure Pearl (Bettor’s Delight) is another filly having a fine season. She has earned $103,326. Stephane Bouchard sits behind her for trainer Linda Toscano.

The question mark in the field is Isabella Blue Chip, another offspring of Bettor’s Delight. Despite her incredible freshman season when she earned $658,583, Isabella Blue Chip has only managed one second in four tries this year. The George Teague, Jr. trainee should be a factor because she’ll face strictly New York sired horses after racing in the $682,670 Fan Hanover Stakes in her last start up at Mohawk Racetrack. Howard “Pacing” Parker will be in town to drive.

Three of the top 20 drivers in the sport in money earnings this season will be at the “Downs” on Wednesday night.

Jody Jamieson, “Double J” as he is called on the Woodbine Entertainment Group circuit, is currently in sixth place in the standings; his drives have earned $6.3 million so far this year. He is also 20th in wins in all of North America with 293. He won the $1 million North America Cup earlier this year with Tell All.

Greg Grismore is currently 17th with over $3.7 million in purse earnings, while Jim Morrill, Jr. is 18th with $3.5 million. Morrill has won 277 races this season while Grismore has won 258.

Top trainers in town include Erv Miller, currently second in North America for wins, 340, and earnings, $4.7 million. Miller won two Breeders Crown events in 2006.

George Teague, Jr. is currently fourth in money earnings with $3.3 million. Teague won the $1 million Meadowlands Pace earlier this summer with Southwind Lynx.

Ross Croghan, “the crocodile man” is fifth with $3.1 million in purse earnings.

The first of 11 races gets underway at 7:35 p.m.
