Trivial Pursue notches 17th win

from Cal-Expo Raceway

Sacramento, CA — Cal-Expo Raceway opened its final week on Thursday, July 29th with a 12 race program.

The third race of the evening was won by Trivial Pursue, the nation’s leading race winner, who now has 17 wins on the year. The Cal-Bred six-year-old mare by Denali, out of the Royal Scotchman dam Pursue Me, is owned by Jack Coffey and Kandy Clarke of Sacramento and trained and driven by Bruce Clarke. Vicky Perez of Diamond Bar bred her.

Falcon Forte N won the feature race in 1:54 flat — equaling his life mark. The event was a pace for conditioned $18,000 claimers racing for a purse of $4,600.

N Wong N left from his outside post along with Power Steering N, Camero N and Falcon Forte N. The logjam stuck N Wong N outside and he neither could find a hole nor had the speed to get to the top and faltered on the backside.

The opening quarter passed in :272 and just before the :56 half Lou Pena came out of the pocket with Camero N and grabbed the lead easily. On the far turn Rocky Stidham came first over with Falcon Forte N and attacked the leader.

The three-quarters came in 1:24 and as they straightened out in the stretch it was a two horse race to the wire. They fought the length of the stretch with Falcon Forte N getting up in the final strides to win it by three-quarters of a length. Rick Plano was three lengths in arrears for third with Flashing Sword N.

Dr. Norman and Joan Ringer of Modesto are the proud owners of the winner and Stidham trains him. He is a six-year-old gelding by Falcon Seelster, out of the Vance Hanover dam Nell’s Rose. This was his sixth win in 21 starts this year and he has now earned just over $22,000 in those starts.

Maier wins 1,500th race

“Cowboy” Tim Maier won his 1,500th race on Thursday evening.

He drove Haere Ra N to victory in the seventh race of the evening for owner Linda Stanich and trainer Donnie “Thunder” Valentine.

Capitol Racing’s General Manager Alan Horowitz and Race Secretary Fred Kuebler met him in the winner’s circle. Those two had a huge sign stating the facts, and congratulating Maier. They were joined by Maier’s wife Denise for the ceremony.
