Harrisburg, PA — One Tough Girl, a daughter of Muscles Yankee out of One Sharp Lady, sold for $155,000 to Melvin Hartman on Tuesday afternoon, November 6, at the Standardbred Horse Sale, becoming the top-priced yearling of the day through 200 horses.

One Tough Girl went through the sales ring for a price of $155,000.

One Sharp Lady, whose first foal Lapponia (by Conway Hall) is a winner on the New York Sires Stakes circuit, is a full sister to Bold Dreamer — the mother of Pampered Princess, Was It A Dream and Satin Pillows.

Whiplash, a son of Conway Hall out of the mare Muscles In Motion, went for $150,000 earlier in the day to trainer Paul Kelley.

The colt is the second foal out of Muscles In Motion, whose mother, Feel The Motion, was the 1997 2-year-old filly trotter of the year.

“I was looking for something for the New York program,” Kelley said. “Unfortunately with the New York program, the more money we race for, the more money we have to pay for these horses. That being said, I thought he was a really nice individual. He’s got a really nice family.

“I’d seen the colt in Lexington and he was one of the ones that caught my eye. When I find one that makes that first impression, I try to stick with my gut feeling. The pedigree has got to be there; the conformation has got to be there. But the horse has got to have that right kind of presence and look in his eye.”

E Pluribus Hanover, a son of Western Ideal and the first foal out of the mare Early Start, sold for $130,000 to Mitchel Skolnick. Early Start’s mother, Seven O’Clock, won 27 races and $559,080 with a mark of 1:53.3 in the mid-1980s. She is a half sister to 1994 Meadowlands Pace runner-up Historic.

Through the first 559 horses sold, a total of $29.3 million was spent for an average of $52,428. Last year, through the first 561 horses, $26.5 million was spent for an average of $47,360.
