TORONTO, April 27, 2006 – A field of 11 three-year-old fillies have been drawn into the lone C$25,000 opening leg division of the Princess Pacing Series, set for Monday evening at Woodbine. The second leg of the 30th edition of the three-week series will be contested on April 8, while the C$83,000 (estimated) final will highlight the April 15 program from the Toronto oval.

All of the participants in the Princess Series were non-winners of $100,000 in 2005.

Mary Artman, part of a Robert McIntosh-owned two-horse entry, is unbeaten in her three career starts heading into the opener and will start from the outside post 10 in the evening’s sixth race (9:26 p.m.).

The Artsplace filly, who is out of the Camluck mare Sammies Cammi, went unraced as a two-year-old and has gone gate-to-wire in all of her tests this season. Mary Artman’s first victory came at Windsor Raceway on April 5, and, with Don Rankin Jr. in the bike, she paced away to an eight-length tally clocked in 1:58.1.

Rick Zeron was in the sulky for Mary Artman’s Woodbine debut on April 13, where she drew off on the field and notched a 4¼-length score in 1:54.4. Zeron was again at the filly’s controls when she paced a 1:53.1 mile on April 20, recording a two-length margin of victory off a :27.4 final quarter.

The career winner of $16,327 is a homebred of McIntosh, Leo Beaudoin and David Kryway, who now have CSX Stables on board.

There are handful of other qualities fillies set to participate in the opening leg, as Gina Raider (PP1, Keith Crawford), Allamerican Memory (PP3, Roger Mayotte) and Ultimate Bet (PP9, Mark MacDonald), among others, are set to compete.

In addition to the Princess’ opening leg, six horses have been drawn into Monday’s $40,000 Preferred trot, which has been carded as the second race (8:02 p.m.) on the 10-dash card.

Insalted (PP1, Mark MacDonald), a five-year-old gelded son of Donerail, has drawn advantageously in the Preferred for trainer Stephen Bossence and is coming in after recording Canada’s quickest trotting time of the season
(1:53.1) on April 24.
