Undercover Lover returns to Pocono

by John Zimich, publicity director, Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs

Wilkes-Barre, PA — Undercover Lover, who was the 2-year-old filly trot Pennsylvania championship final victor last September at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs, will be returning to the five-eighths-mile oval on Friday (July 27) to compete in one of four divisions of the Pennsylvania Sires Stakes for 3-year-old trotting fillies.

Joe Pavia, Jr., who has been sidelined with an injury for the past several weeks, drove Undercover Lover to that $100,000 Pennsylvania championship win last year. Lori Castranuovo trains and owns the filly that won six of 13 starts in 2006, with one second and four thirds, while amassing $212,293 in purses.

Coming into Friday’s race, the filly trotter has one win in four starts this year, a 1:58.4 win in the Pennsylvania Sires Stakes at the Meadows. She has had breaking problems in her last two starts and was a qualifying winner at Chester Downs on July 17 with a time of 1:57.3 with Tim Tetrick in the sulky.

Tetrick is scheduled to drive Undercover Lover on Friday afternoon from the six hole.

Speedy Edie, also drawing an outside post, will be one of the favorites in the second of the four divisions. This SJ’s Caviar filly has won five of 10 starts this year with two seconds and a third. She won a Pennsylvania Sires Stake race at the Meadows in June with Richard Stillings in the bike.

Howard Parker is down to drive Speedy Edie, who will have to overcome the eight post in the race. Merle LaFountaine owns and trains Speedy Edie.
