Pompano Beach, Florida – January 10, 2006 – Varekai puts his three-race winning streak on the line Wednesday in the 8th race trot at Pompano Park. He faces rival Bloodstock’s Sam, who has won three of his last five starts, including a victory over Varekai back on December 9.

Bloodstock’s Sam starts from post two and is the 5/2 morning line favorite for trainer/driver George Napolitano, Jr. The six-year-old gelding by Sierra Kosmos last week was able to win for the first time this year with a two length 1:59 score for owners Louis Beltrami and James Clement of Hazleton, Pa.

Varekai starts from the rail for driver Bruce Ranger and is the 7/2 second choice in the race. Last week the four-year-old mare by Cherry Hills was able to a perfect two-hole trip for the second straight week and win by one and three-quarter lengths in 2:00.4. Trained by Tom Beckette for the Bruce Ranger Stable, McTrade Enterprises of Amos, Quebec own Varekai.

Back on December 9 going against Varekai, Bloodstock’s Sam was able to come from off the pace to win by one length in 1:59.3. In that race, Varekai made a rare and costly break at the start and finished last.
