Velvet Eileen streaks into Pompano feature

Pompano Beach, FL — Pompano Park track record holder Velvet Eileen brings a three-race winning streak to Friday’s (April 27) $10,000 Fillies and Mares Isle Mile I Pace, where she will meet a group of five female pacers that were separated by a neck in their most recent encounter.

Installed as the 7-5 morning line favorite, Velvet Eileen rolled to a 1-1/2 length victory in her last start on April 13, stopping the timer in a career best 1:52 to set the Pompano Park track record for a 4-year-old female pacer.

After closing out her sophomore season with a victory at Indiana Downs on November 3, Velvet Eileen has scored twice at Pompano this year, adding a victory in 1:53.3 on April 6 to her most recent tally.

Owned by Rod Lorenzo, Ciro Gentile, and Pomtambo Stable, and trained by Michile Lorenzo, Velvet Eileen will start from post two in the Friday feature, with Wally Hennessey at the lines.

Montana Moonlite A scored for the second straight time when taking the Fillies and Mares Isle Mile I on April 20 in a lifetime mark of 1:53.2. In that race, all five female pacers that competed hit the wire simultaneously, requiring a five-horse win photo to determine the winner.

Trained by Jacques Dupuis, Montana Moonlite A has drawn post one for Friday’s pace and is listed at 3-1 in the morning line. Anthony Napolitano is scheduled to drive the 8-year-old daughter of Fake Left for the ownership of John Campagnuolo and Larry Silber.

Owned by Louis Diffenback, William Mack, Jr., Lisa Diffenback, and trainer Jim Mattison, Hypnotize came out on the fifth place end of last week’s five-horse win photo, although the daughter of Artiscape was beaten just a neck for everything.

After scoring in six of her first 12 starts this year, Hypnotize hasn’t visited the winner’s circle since prevailing by a head in 1:53.4 on March 23, and enters the Friday feature on a minor four race skid.

Listed as the 2-1 second choice in the morning line, Hypnotize will start from post three on Friday with David Ingraham at the controls.

Knockout Stable’s Wilma Hall enters the Friday feature off consecutive second place performances, including last week’s Isle Mile I for the female pacers where she had the lead in deep stretch, only to get passed in the final yards by Montana Moonlite A.

Wilma Hall will start from post five in the Friday feature and will be driven by Bruce Ranger.

Rounding out the field for Friday’s $10,000 Fillies and Mares Isle Mile I Pace is My Metallica, an Illinois-bred champion in 2005, and Cape Cove Daisy, who has crossed the wire third in each of her last three appearances.
