Vernon, NY — Vernon Downs has instituted what amounts to nearly a 20 percent purse increase for the next two weeks, according to director of racing Scott Warren.

“Due to fewer races being carded and a purse account surplus, we want to reward the horsemen who have been here the whole meet and supported our program week in and week out,” he said.

Open events have been increased from $9,000 to $11,000, while first-level purses have increased from $2,500 to $3,100. Similar increases have been made across the entire condition sheet as well.
