Veterans take center stage in Spring Championship

Toronto, ON — Woodbine Racetrack will aim the spotlight on mature pacing talent on Saturday night, March 28, as the C$50,000 first leg of the Spring Pacing Championship for 4-year-olds and up gets underway.

Among the luminaries entered in the series opening round are the unstoppable Ramegade Bruiser, who has already scored five victories in seven starts this year, and Canada’s older pacer of the year for 2008, Secrets Nephew, who at age seven is a veteran of 128 starts and has earned nearly $1.1 million. He’ll be piloted, as always, by trainer/co-owner Lyle MacArthur, who rarely misses a Saturday night at Woodbine with his superstar performer.

Also in this field is the 4-year-old Legacy N Diamonds, who has just returned to the shedrow of conditioner Carl Jamieson after an extended stint racing on the U.S. eastern seaboard, where he won his last two starts. He’ll have his work cut out for him against these powerful older pacers, but he’s used to being an underdog, having raced as a 3-year-old against the utterly dominant Somebeachsomewhere.

The Spring Pacing Championship first leg is slated as race seven, post time 9:36 p.m., on Saturday night at Woodbine.
