Victory Sir high-steps his way to Monticello win

by John Manzi, publicity director, Monticello Raceway

Monticello, NY — During the 2004 season at Monticello Raceway a Sir Taurus colt by the name of Victory Sir had a big year where he earned over $75,000 — much of it in the New York Sires Stakes — and consequently was named 3-year-old Trotter of the Year at the Mighty M.

Over the years Victory Sir has been a very useful animal for his owner, Eric Williams of nearby Jeffersonville, N.Y., and the trotter has amassed a bankroll of over $169,000 in three years of racing.

Victory Sir high-steps his way to a 1:59.2 victory in the Monticello Raceway trotting feature.

On Wednesday afternoon, November 14, Victory Sir copped Monticello Raceway’s Winners Over Trot in a time of 1:59.2, defeating a solid field of trotters. Jacques Primeau handled the driving chores for Williams — who also doubles as his horse’s trainer.

Primeau gave Victory Sir a picture perfect trip after they sped to the lead from post position two and then yielded command to Roman Holiday and driver Stephane Bouchard near the quarter, which was trotted in :29.2.

From there Bouchard and Roman Holiday showed the way and Primeau and Victory Sir shadowed their every move. Roman Holiday passed the half-mile marker in :59.1 and remained unchallenged as he passed the three-quarter pole in 1:29.2.

Roman Holiday still had a two length lead as the field headed into the paddock turn, but when they straightened out in the homestretch, Primeau and Victory Sir had dead aim on the leader. In deep stretch, Victory Sir trotted to the front and finished 1-1/4 lengths ahead of Roman Holiday. Clearly Possessed (Greg Merton), who was following Victory Sir throughout, didn’t fire in the lane and ended up with the show dough.

For Victory Sir, it was his seventh triumph of the season, which pushed his yearly earnings to nearly $55,000.
