Wednesday brings record sales topper

“Never, ever,” has a yearling sold for a sum anywhere near the $250,000 sum brought by Lord Of The Wings (Andover Hall-Queen Of Angels) at the Standardbred Horse Sale’s Wednesday session, according to Sale Manager Murray Brown. The Wednesday offerings at the sale are typically much more modestly priced. “I can recall one going for $100,000 many years ago, but never close to $250,000,” says Brown.

The colt was sold to the Toss Out Stable of Maurizio Biasuzzi of Pompano Beach, Florida. Hip # 768 is the first colt, third foal of Queen Of Angels, a daughter of Valley Victory. “This is a surprise,” said breeder Michael Andrew, a college professor at the University of New Hampshire who raised Lord of the Wings at his Birch Hill Farm in Gorham, Maine.

Andrew was driving to the sale hauling a horse trailer containing Dream Of Angels, the Dream Vacation sister to Lord Of The Wings, when he learned of the sale result. “I was thinking maybe if everything went right, he’d go for $100,000, but not this,” Andrew noted. “He’s a very correct individual from a good maternal family and by a hot sire (Andover Hall). He was very well prepared by Carter Duer. His dam is a full sister to the dam of Chocolatier. This has been a good week.” Andrew also bred and owns Likeabatouttahell, who won his elimination for a three-year-old trotting colt Matron Stake at Dover Downs earlier this week.

Andrews has also been a buyer at the sale, purchasing Meucci Miss (Yankee Glide – Maragarita Miss – Crowning Point) for $200,000 from Winbak Farm.
