WEG still seeking to drop eight Sunday race dates

from the Ontario Racing Commission

Toronto, ON — Under the new Race Date Amendment Policy, the Executive Director makes decisions on race date change applications, which then in turn can be appealed to the Commission.

In August of 2007 an application was received from Woodbine Entertainment Group to amend its 2007 approved race date schedule to cancel eight Sundays in November and December at Woodbine Racetrack. In accordance with the new Race Date Amendment policy, a business case to substantiate the application was also received. This application circulated to the industry and comment was received.

Following the decision of the Executive Director to decline to approve Woodbine Entertainment Group’s application to amend its 2007 approved race dates, WEG has appealed the Executive Director’s decision to a panel of the Ontario Racing Commission for a hearing on this matter.

A hearing has been scheduled for Monday, October 15, at 9:00 a.m. Hearings of the Ontario Racing Commission are open to the public.
