Delaware, OH — Snow and subzero temperatures have blanketed most of the midwest including the half-mile track at the Delaware, Ohio Fairgrounds, home of the Little Brown Jug. Not much serious training is going on, but there is a lot of hot stove discussion in barns and tack shops at the fairgrounds and racetracks throughout the country.

So, here is a question to think about as you shovel your walk or talk harness racing with your friends. What was the biggest upset in the history of the Little Brown Jug?

There have been 61 Little Brown Jug’s contested since Ensign Hanover won the inaugural for Wayne (Curly) Smart in 1946. I have listed nine races which could be considered as major upsets. Can you name another?

1971–Nansemond upsets Albatross.
1975–Seatrain topples Nero.
1978–Happy Escort defeats Flight Director, Falcon Almahurst and Abercrombie.
1981–The filly Fan Hanover wins accident-marred race.
1982–Merger wins first Jug trophy for John Campbell.
1992–Fake Left shocks Western Hanover.
2000–Astreos wins over pre-race favorite Gallo Blue Chip.
2005–P-Forty-Seven puts away Village Jolt and Rocknroll Hanover.
2006–Mr Feelgood shocks Total Truth, Doonbeg, Jereme’s Jet and others.
