Winners to tangle in Artsplace Series Monday

by Steve Wolf, Director of Marketing, Pompano Park

Pompano Beach, Florida – Both return winners from last weeks opening round, Electric’s A Flyin and ICU Jessie will meet Monday in the second round of the $60,000 Artsplace Pacing Series at Pompano Park Harness Track. The bulky field of 12 starters, largest field so far this meet, takes place in the 4th race.

Despite winning nearly two full seconds slower than Electric’s A Flyin, ICU Jessie has been made the 2-1 favorite in the $6,500 co-feature. ICU Jessie will start from post eight for driver Kevin Wallis. Last week the four-year-old gelding by Camluck, trained by Gordon Norris, was able to wire the field from post six and win in a romp by five and one-quarter lengths in 1:54. ICU Jessie has won four of his last seven starts for owners Diane Norris and Clifford Grundy of Howell, Michigan.

Electric’s A Flyin just as impressive, if not more, than ICU Jessie last week. With driver Richard Macomber, Jr. in the bike for trainer Brian Hauck, Electric’s A Flyin also led from start to finish and he won by one and three-quarter lengths in a lifetime best 1:52.2. A four-year-old gelding by Electric Yankee is owned by Ed Hauck, Jr. of Pompano Beach, Florida.

But Electric’s A Flyin will not have a clear view to get to the lead early on Monday has he has drawn post position number 11 and must start in the second tier of horses, behind #2 PC’s Leo. Electric’s A Flyin is the 4-1 third choice in the race. Three horses, posts 10, 11 and 12, must start in the race in the second tier.

Second choice by the morning line oddsmaker at 3-1 is It’s The Paper Boy from post three for driver Bruce Ranger. Although finishing third to Electric’s A Flyin last week, It’s The Paper Boy was parked out and should benefit from his inside post position Monday.

There will be one more preliminary leg of the series on Monday, February 9 with the $20,000 added final on Monday, February 16.

S F Misty will seek to continue her winning ways as the 8/5 favorite in the 10th race $9,500 Mares Open Handicap Pace. The four-year-old mare by Turbo has won in this class in two of her last three starts. S F Misty will start from post four for driver Kevin Wallis against rivals Big Duchess, world record holder Kadijah, Jenelle Mindale, Dropelle and Sweet Dreams.

Monday is also the second free spaghetti dinner night of the season. More than 40 pounds of pasta, 40 pounds of ground beef and 6 gallons of marinara sauce will be prepared for the event. Everyone that purchases a Pompano Park program Monday will get a coupon good for a free dinner that includes salad, rolls and butter, a heaping plate of pasta with sauce.
