Winter weather forces cancellations

The Meadowlands Racetrack has canceled live harness racing for Tuesday night, January 27.

Incoming simulcasting will conclude with the signal from Turf Paradise, approximately 7:00 p.m.

“We are canceling due to the anticipated severe weather conditions this evening that are supposed to intensify as the night progresses and would potentially impact our guests and horsemen,” said Meadowlands Vice President and General Manager Chris McErlean.

Yonkers Raceway has cancelled its live harness program for Tuesday night, as well as their evening harness simulcasting.

“With the onset of a severe snowstorm in the greater New York area, the decision was pretty clear,” general manager Bob Galterio said. “We would not ask our employees to travel in such dangerous conditions, and since we also rely on a large number of ship-ins, it wouldn’t be fair to ask those horsemen to try and get here.”

Live racing is scheduled to resume Friday night at Yonkers (January 30), with 11 races and a usual 7:40 p.m. first post.

Northville Downs cancelled their qualifiers for this morning and also this evening’s pari-mutuel racing card. The Meadows has also called off their Tuesday night live program.
