Northfield, OH — Northfield management may be sending a bill to driver Charlie Wyers for the extra electricity the track toteboard needed on Wednesday night. Wyers posted three wins, all paying over $50.00, on the card. The triple overshadowed Greg Grismore’s four win performance.

Wyers won the fifth race, a $3,000 claimer, with Ranchwood Frances. The 2:00.3 mile by the seven-year-old gelding yielded a whopping $115.20 return for a $2 win ticket. In the ninth, Wyers drove Town Lover to a 1:58.3 win, yielding a paltry $50.00 mutuel. He concluded his big night by winning the nightcap, a $2,200 conditioned pace, with Nuclear Sam, who paid $66.40.

Also of note, John G. Wengerd of Wooster, Ohio, won the opener, a maiden trot, while John D. Wengerd, of Dundee, Ohio, won the fourth race maiden pace. The 19-year-old Dundee native and the 38-year-old Wooster resident are not related.

Northfield to host benefit raffle

On Saturday, July 16, Northfield Park will hold a benefit raffle for the yearling pacer BB Bunny Bell, the Geauga County colt with a hole in its head.

BB Bunny Bell will be at the track to meet and greet the public from 6:30 p.m. — 8:30 p.m. at the south end of the grandstand.

Anyone mentioning the colt at the clubhouse or grandstand admission gates gets free admission to the track that night.
